The advantages to living in the great lakes state of Michigan are that you are in a state that has everything from gentle mountains to sandy beaches. The worlds longest bridge span is between the Upper and Lower Peninsula and the county of Canada is only s short drive away.

The state is surrounded by great lakes on three sides and until recently did a brisk business in the tourism industry. The city of Detroit is where the Big Three automakers call home and if you love summer sports, the lakes give you everything you could ask for. If you are into arts and music then a huge advantage to you is the Interlochen Arts academy, which has had such luminaries as Jewel and the Beach Boys as students who later returned to entertain there. In short it is a very diverse state. The one downside of living here is the lake effect show, which can start as early as September and last as late as July often dumping literally feet of snow every evening for months at a time.

The largest cities in the state of Michigan are all located in the Lower Peninsula and are not surprisingly Detroit, Grand Rapids and Warren. The Lower Peninsula is more packed with larger pockets of towns while the Upper Peninsula is made up of very small and widely dispersed cities.
